I've got a fabulous postcard from my new postcard pal from USA. The so called Main Street of America – Historic Route 66. I'm happy because it is a theme from my wishlist!
After the transcontinental railroad was completed, the connection was made to Sausalito, the terminus at the Golden Gate. Here is the North Pacific Coast passenger train with crew. Built in 1891, it is narrow-gauge railroad. This 1893 photograph is at Sausalito's terminal. (Courtesy Sausalito Historical Society 84-113).
Beihai Tunnel is located between Ren-ai Village and Meishi Village. In 1970, the military excavated a tunnel here for the ships to avoid bad weather and attacks. The tunnel could harbor several naval vessels, but after a severe typhoon, it was damaged. As the cross-strait relations grow friendlier, the tunnel has become a tourist attraction.
