Portugal: Seniors in a rural shop

From the sender's message: In Alentejo (a Southern region of Portugal) most of the inhabitants are old, once the young population left in search of a better life in the cities or even abroad. Being an agriculture oriented region, most of the old people left behind still work in their little orchards and small pieces of land, own little "shops" (in their own households), do a little handicraft type of work (carved walking sticks, embroidery) and above all keep alive and independent, which does not happen in the cities where not being able to provide themselves with any additional income end up in retirement homes. Still being useful is all these people want.

This card was sent me as a second card because the first one was lost :( The first one was so wonderful so that I don't want to delete it. I favourited it hoping that some day I'll receive it. Click on the link to see the first card. http://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/PT-241016
