The completion of America's first transcontinental railroad was celebrated at the "Last Spike" ceremony at Promontory, Utah. On the left, Central Pacific Locomotive "Jupiter" and( No. 60), a wood burner, meets Union Pacific Locomotive (No. 119), coal burner, on the right. The two train engineers hold champagne later broken over the nose of each locomotive. Shaking hands are the chief construction engineers, Samuel S. Montague of the C.P. and Granville M. Dodge of the U.P.
Private swap. Actually, it was an act of kindness of a postcrosser who's card I favorited. I'm surprised and pleased.
